We arrived around lunchtime on Wednesday. Isaac did okay on the flight... not his best, but tolerable. We rented a convertible for our trip and had the most fun! We had a VW Eos hardtop convertible and had the top down every second it wasn't raining! Isaac was luke-warm about the convertible but he got used to it by the end of the trip.
Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy hit the caribbean Thursday and Friday. This meant we had a lot of wind and occasional rain showers. Luckily the worst weather was at night.
Here are a few pictures from our trip. Can't wait to go back!
The first day of our trip we spent at the beach. Our hotel room walked out onto the beach which was great for convenience. Also, October is one of the lowest tourism months for the Keys so there were typically only 2-4 other people on the beach at any given time which was also great!
Learning from past mistakes... we booked a 1 bedroom suite for this trip which was absolutely the best thing we could have done. Isaac went to bed at his normal time and we were able to shut the door and relax in the living room or sit on the patio and listen to the waves. Having this option is a must when traveling with small kids.
We spent most of Thursday at a place called "Theatre of the Sea". It's a state park area where they train animals and put on shows throughout the day. I was so impressed by how they keep the animals. The dolphin area is a lake separated from the ocean. It's huge and you really feel like they are in their natural habitat (not a zoo).
The dolphins were our favorite! Isaac was completely zoned in the entire time!
This was the sea lion show. He is clapping in this picture!
This was a restaurant called "Robbies". For $6 you could get a big bucket of fish and feed tarpon that were bigger than me right off the dock! We didn't get any pictures of this, but once Isaac warmed up to it, he started throwing the fish in right and left and just laughed and laughed!
We spent most of Saturday relaxing on the beach since it was our last day and the hurricane weather had passed. Wonderful vacation and we hope to go back!
