On Friday, we had the inspection completed and everything looked great! The inspection took over 4 hours so we got to spend a ton of time in the house taking pictures and notes. The next time we are at the house will be when we move in. Crazy!
At some point I will post a quick overview of the story on our offer process with the house. We almost lost it to another buyer but thankfully the Lord is good and it ended up in our favor. :) We are incredibly thankful we got this house. We didn't see anything else we liked as much. It's the perfect house, perfect location, and (relatively) perfect price. It's crazy that it is over 3x's the price of our Houston home... but it was less than the upper limit we set which was a huge blessing. We honestly didn't know if we could get a house with a garage for that price.
Here are a few of the pictures we took. I think we took at least 50, so I had pick some of the best ones to give you a feel for the layout.
House Spec's:
- ~3,400 finished sq ft total (with basement). Closer to 2,500 on main and upper floors.
- Built in 1978
Exterior. So homey feeling, we love it! 2-car garages are near impossible to find in this area. We worked our Realtor to death finding homes with garages.
Front door on the right. You will notice many outdated light figures in this hosue. :)
Kitchen. We future plans to put in dark granite, new faucet, pretty tile backsplash and stainless appliances. Someday... :)
The tall cabinets are the right are "pantry" cabinets. They have pullout drawers for storage. I also love the hidden trash cabinet (not pictured). It looks like a normal cabinet, but pulls out straight and holds a trash can.
Den off the kitchen. There is a breakfast area between the kitchen and the den that isn't shown.
Formal dining. If you walk into the room, there is a doorway to the right into the kitchen. We have wallpaper to remove... fun. :/
Formal living in the front of the house. We don't have enough furniture for this house so this room will be empty for a while.
Up the stairs...
Upstairs hallway. The doors on the right edge of the picture is the laundry room. At first I thought it was a little weird to have the laundry on the second floor, but now that I've been soaking on it, I think I love the idea of having it on the same floor as the bedrooms (v. basement in most houses out East).
The crazy huge master bedroom. Don't you love the drapes? Ha!
Reeeeeally bad master bath. We have a grand plan to tear down the walls and build new ones further out in the bedroom to better use some of the enormous space. It will double the walk-in closet size, create room for a double sink vanity, closed-off toilet room and walk-in shower. Plus, just having a private bath (not open to the bedroom) will be a huge improvement. This is a future idea that won't be happening any time soon. :)
This will be Isaac's room.
Spare bedroom that will be empty. Small walk-in closet in the corner. More de-wallpapering.
There is another bedroom upstairs that I forgot to photograph. It's enormous like the master bedroom. We plan to use it as our office/my sewing room/playroom.
There is also another bathroom upstairs. I took a couple photos but it's really bad... think mint-green tile on the floor and shower walls. Eek!
Basement rec room. The previous owners moved to Florida (seriously).... so the paint colors were not a surprise.
The 5th bedroom is in the basement. It's actually a "legal" bedroom. The window meets code requirements to be an actual bedroom. We will repaint and use as our guest bedroom.
Basement bath. It needs some updating, but I think we're going to keep the existing floor. I love the vintage look! Its right off the bedroom so is kind of a second "master suite". It's nice that our guests have their own space and we won't feel like it's cramped like we feel in our current house when guests stay over.
I didn't take any pictures of the backyard, so I stole this from the MLS website. The swingset/playset and shed are staying! Yay!!
Those are the highlights! We are so fortunate to have our Dad's coming to visit shortly after we move to help with some of the urgent renovation (updating basement bath, Isaac's bath, stripping wallpaper, painting, etc...). The bigger stuff will have to wait but we are looking forward to making this house our new home! We will have lots of empty rooms to start but hopefully over time we can slowly fill them. I am looking forward to slowly decorating and really making it feel like home.
The current plan is to close on March 12th. That means the movers will probably pack up our house during the week of the 5th. It's all happening so fast!
I'll continue to update from time to time and will post more pictures once we get settled.
