A few weeks ago we heard that the National Zoo gets decked out in Christmas lights in the month of December. Sounded like fun so we had to go!
We made it a fun evening by going out to dinner as a family in trendy Arlington. I'm not sure how "trendy" we were with a 2 year old, but hey, we'll take what we can get! hehe!
After dinner we made it to the zoo around 7pm and the traffic was insane! I guess everyone had the same idea that evening. We got super lucky and just as we were trying to figure out if there was a way to avoid the long car line to get into the zoo parking lot, a parallel parking spot opened up on the street and it was literally across the street from the zoo entrance. Hooray!
We spent about an hour walking through the zoo. The lights were never over-the-top in any single area, but there was tons of pretty trees, animal shapes and pathways lit-up throughout the zoo. We walked through the main zoo pathway which was at least a mile and there were lights the entire way. Pretty cool!
Here are a few pictures I took. Enjoy!
