Thankfully, we have made a ton of progress on the basement. You may recall from earlier posts that the prior owners went to school at the University of Florida and had decorated the basement accordingly... not our taste. :)
The carpet was also dingy, uncomfortable, smelly and overall just gross. We decided to replace it as soon as a carpet store could get the new carpet delivered.
Before the carpet was delivered we had to paint the orange and blue walls as well as the ceiling. The ceiling was a mix-match of different colors of white paint and looked horrible. (By the way... I will NEVER paint a ceiling again. My advice would be to hire it out, it was awful!).
We spent each night this past week painting for 2-3 hours between when Isaac went to bed and we went to bed. Thankfully we got it done!

After painting and carpet!
In case you were wondering, the tiny closets that the couch covers are the access points for the main water valves and electrical box. Kind of weird they are in a small closet but I suppose thats better than out in the open!
We still have a ton of cleanup and other work to do but it feels so much more livable now. I love, love, LOVE the wall color. It's so fresh and crisp it makes me just feel good being down there. In fact, we pretty much live down there in the evenings after Isaac goes to bed.
A few things left to do in the basement:
- Hang TV on the wall (brackets ordered)
- Run conduit for power cords/cables from TV to video cabinets (stuff ordered for that as well)
- Get some sort of bookcase for Isaac's books and toys
- Find/make drapes for the walk-out door and corresponding pillows ( I love these! But at $125/yd for the fabric, not gonna happen.)
- Setup surround sound (we are thinking of trying wireless speakers for the back... anyone have experience?)
- Hang stuff on the walls :)
Most posts to come as we keep chipping away!
